That's Why Handheld Computer's

By Michael Erikson

There is nothing quite as frustrating as forgetting an appointment or finding yourself out on the go and needing to access your personal documents. It can be enough to make you want to pull your hair out. So what exactly do you need?

The pocket PC has come a long way since the first model was introduced in the 1980s. The original iPAQ Pocket PC'S were very basic, even though later models added the ability to see a single line of text. That is nothing compared to the newest models, which let you browse the internet, schedule appointments and allow you to send and receive documents, all while being away from the office.

The pocket PC has come a long way since its humble beginnings. This device started out as a calculator sized computer that had very limited and basic functions. Later models added the ability to see one line of text, this is old stuff today of course.

In previous versions, if the battery ran dead, then all information would be lost. Mobile 5 eliminated this by storing the information on a flash drive. The handhelds software also improved with version 6, with advanced capabilities, more storage and a feature that allows the PDA to act as a Smartphone.

So you might ask, what can a handheld computer do for me? Personal Information Management (PIM). This is one of the biggest reasons people use handhelds, functionality consisting of calendar, contacts, and a To-Do lists. This is very useful and invaluable for someone that needs to stay organized.

The Windows mobile Smartphone is a combination of the cell phone and the personal digital assistant. The PC software is there in the cell phone so it can be used as a personal computer when on the go. It was this evolution of the cell phone that had many companies altering their selling tactics. Most companies elected not to pursue the pocket PC, since Smartphones were becoming more of a mainstream choice.

The pocket PC is a great tool to have if you find yourself away from your home computer or office. It is an excellent way to stay in touch. There are some great models on the market today, such as the PalmOs, iPhone, Blackberry and many of the Hewlett Packard brands of smart phones. Even if you already have a cell phone, the PDA can still be used for its scheduling capabilities; however, once you have fully mastered the PDA, you'll never want to go back to a paper planner again.
